Hays Sears opens new, larger store

Sears Hometown Store in Hays has reopened at 2706 Vine.
The new site offers customers twice as many tools in a shop 1,000 square feet bigger than its previous location. Rent costs and the availability of a remodeled store spurred the move, said Erica Edwards, general manager of SD Enterprises.
The company also owns the Sears stores in Newton, McPherson and Great Bend.
"Hays looked like a good opportunity," Edwards said. "It's a large community, and overall this store has performed well in the past."
The new ownership offers a fresh look for the store.
"Historically, this market has performed so well that we thought it would be a good investment to give Hays a new store, updated location and a little larger assortment," Edwards said.
Customers can order any mailable Sears product through the store and get free shipping to their residence. Items include shoes, toys, baby furniture and video games.
Amanda Lockhart, store manager, said she looks forward to serving the area.
"It's exciting," Lockhart said. "Ready to make sure Hays knows that Sears is sticking around. We're not going anywhere, so we're here to stay and be here for the community."
The store's grand reopening is set for the fall.
