Day of remembrance for 9/11 victims will be Wednesday
Special to the HDN
On Wednesday, members of the Hays community are invited to attend a remembrance ceremony for victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in Washington and Pennsylvania.
The event will begin 8:30 p.m. in the evening at the Fort Hays State University Quad.
FHSU Student Government Association President Chris Roberts will speak and, weather permitting, candles will be lit as FHSU student volunteers lead participants in singing "America the Beautiful" and other traditional songs. The National Guard also will be in attendance to present colors.
A Day of Service will follow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13. Students will have the opportunity to remember those lost by volunteering with the United Way delivering packets to businesses in the community. Email email@example.com to volunteer.
This event is sponsored by the FHSU American Democracy Project and Tigers in Service.
