State issues emergency suspension of Hays day care
By MIKE CORN
At the request of local law enforcement officers, state health officials have suspended the day care license for Michelle M. Sarver in Hays.
The request came after emergency medical personnel were called to her home Wednesday to the report of an 8-week-old infant who wasn’t breathing.
The infant died Saturday afternoon at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, according to Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler.
“At this point in the investigation, we’re still trying to determine what happened,” he said. “It’s a tragic event for our community.”
The child initially was rushed to Hays Medical Center and later airlifted to Wichita where he died.
The day care suspension order was issued Friday but wasn’t announced by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment until Monday.
