2 Ottawa teens killed after I-70 three vehicle wreck

OGALLAH -- Two Ottawa teens were killed Monday on Interstate 70 in a three-vehicle accident when the 17-year-old driver lost control and traveled into the westbound lane hitting two other vehicles.
The accident was reported at approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday a mile east of Ogallah.
The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the two people killed as John Louis Smith, 17, Ottawa, the driver of the car, and a passenger, Alexis Woolsoncroft, 12, also of Ottawa.
A third occupant of the car, 17-year-old Alejandra Guitierrez-Pino, Ottawa, was injured and transported to Hays Medical Center.
Smith was driving eastbound on I-70, according to KHP, when he apparently lost control, went through the median and struck the two vehicles.
One of them was a 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer. The driver, Dennis E. Bowers, 49, Cardington, Ohio, was take to Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. He later was transferred to HaysMed.
The driver of the third vehicle, Kevin K. Werner, 54, Derby, also was taken to the WaKeeney hospital for possible injuries.
