LAKE WILSON -- The body of a Hoisington man was recovered Sunday morning by divers called to Lake Wilson after the man disappeared as he tried to swim to shore.
The 38-year-old man apparently drowned as he tried to swim across a cove in the Rock Town area of the lake after the boat he was on had mechanical problems, according to a statement from the Russell County Sheriff's office.
The name of the man wasn't released pending notification of next of kin.
According to the release, two people remaining in the boat said they saw him swimming and then didn't see him come back up. Authorities searched the shore of the cove but found nothing, suspending the search early Sunday morning.
When the search resumed, authorities ultimately found the body with the help of sonar. Diver Bill Hickert recovered the body.
Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the drowning.
