A Hays man was killed in an accident on Interstate 70 Friday night just east of Hays.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Kia Soul driven by Douglas R. Feldt, 37, Hays, was westbound on I-70 just before midnight when he was struck by a 2003 Dodge pickup driven by Cameron Wade Williams, 19, Great Bend, driving eastbound in the westbound lane.

Both vehicles came to rest in the left lane, where they were struck by a 2011 Freightliner semi driven by Jeremy Lee Kelly, 35, Marion, Ill.

Feldt was pronounced dead and taken to Brock's North Hill Chapel Funeral Home, Hays. Williams was flown from the scene via helicopter to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, and Kelly was taken to Hays Medical Center.

A spokesperson for Wesley Medical Center said late Saturday morning Williams' condition was critical.

Feldt worked for a home exterior company.

Rus Ricker, a co-worker of Feldt's who had known him for 10 years, remembered him Saturday.

"He was just a great guy, super nice guy," Ricker said. "Terrible thing that happened."
