Support group to view DVD

A presentation Sunday afternoon of the DVD "Journey Through the Shadows: Hope for Healing after Someone You Love has Committed Suicide," will provide insight into some of the difficult questions that surround suicide.

Sponsored by the Center for Life Experience's "Healing After Loss of Suicide" group, the DVD will be shown from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Schmidt Gallery of Hays Public Library.

DVD topics include the initial impact of death, the question of why, feelings of guilt and why suicide is so hard to talk about. The program offers advice and resources from experts and family members who have direct experience with suicide.

"It's a very straight-forward presentation," said Ann Leiker, executive director of CFLE.

Local mental health professionals Carrie Nassif, Ken Loos and Kenton Olliff will be on hand during the presentation to answer questions.

The HALOS support group meets the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 29th and Hall.

"As the group becomes better known, it is growing," Leiker said. "They help each other because they understand.

"It's a difficult and unwanted bond of understanding. They feel like they can share with and learn from each other."
