Area schools prep for homecoming
By The Hays Daily News
Parade lovers in the Hays area will have a unique opportunity next month -- the opportunity to attend three parades in one day.
Homecoming weekend for three of the four Ellis County high schools are scheduled for Sept. 20 to 21, and all feature Friday parades before that evening's homecoming games.
Ellis High School's parade begins at 2:30 p.m., while Victoria's parade is set for 4 p.m. The homecoming parade for Thomas More Prep-Marian in Hays will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Hays High School's 2013 homecoming is the following weekend, Sept. 27 to 28.
The following is a schedule for the three homecomings on the same weekend.
* Ellis -- The theme for the Railroaders' parade will be chosen by the student council within the next two weeks. A barbecue is being planned after the parade, and crowning of the royalty will precede the football game at 6:30. Kickoff for the homecoming game versus Ellinwood is at 7.
Anyone wishing to enter a float in the parade should contact student council sponsor Jeff Kohl at school at (785) 726-3151.
* Victoria -- Victoria's 2013 homecoming theme is "Ig-Knight the Eagles," in reference to the Knights' opponent, Ness City. Following the parade and a barbecue, the crowning of the homecoming royalty will be at 6:30, followed by the game at 7.
Prospective float entries should contact Dylan Dronberger, VHS student council sponsor, at (785) 735-9211.
* TMP -- Lineup for the Monarchs' parade begins at 4 p.m. on the school grounds, from where the entries begin the procession down 17th Street to Main at 5:20.
This year's theme is "Rise Above," and inquires for float entries should be directed by Sept. 6 to Mary Lang in the TMP Alumni office, either by phone at (785) 625-9434 or by email at email@example.com.
