Award-winning Kansas author Charlotte Hinger will speak at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hays Public Library.

Hidden Heritage, the third book in the Lottie Albright series, recently was selected by Kirkus Reviews as one of the best mysteries of 2013. The books are set in western Kansas and published by Poisoned Pen Press, one of the largest U.S.-based publishers of hardcover mysteries.

The first book in the series, "Deadly Descent," won the Arizona Book Publishers Award in 2010.

A signing will follow the presentation.

Hinger has won multiple awards for both fiction and non-fiction. Her historical novel, "Come Spring," published by Simon and Schuster, won the Western Writers of America Medicine Pipe Bearers Award in 1986. An article she published in Kansas History won the Westerners International for best article in 2008.

A longtime Kansas resident, Hinger lives in Colorado but continues to explore themes related to Kansas agricultural issues and small-town social dynamics through the perspective of her protagonist, Lottie Albright, whose dual roles as the county historical researcher and local undersheriff embroil her in criminal investigations with nuances unique to Kansas.
