Hays ranks high in best-places study
NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, conducted a study on the best towns in Kansas for young families, and Hays is in the top 10.
To find the best places for future parents and young families to settle in Kansas, NerdWallet analyzed data from 61 cities according to five criteria: public school ratings, median home value, cost of homeownershi, median income and economic growth.
NerdWallet ranked Hays second after assessing the town's cost of living, education system and economic growth. The town's school district received an eight-out-of-ten rating from the nonprofit, GreatSchools. Hays also has the third-lowest home prices of all cities in the top 10.
"The largest city in northwestern Kansas, Hays is a hub for education, retail, health care and entertainment," said NerdWallet analyst Mike Anderson. "The city is also home to Fort Hays State University and boasts extremely low unemployment at 3.4 percent."
