Two northwest Kansas residents were hospitalized for injuries following a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon. The accident was shortly before 3:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of old U.S. Highway 40.

Georgia Beckner, 66, Kanorado, and her passenger, Sheri Jackson, 41, Goodland, were taken to Hays Medical Center for injuries, according to Ellis County Sheriff Ed Harbin.

Beckner failed to yield at a marked intersection while driving a silver 2003 Mazda, Harbin said.

Beckner collided with Jose Jimenez-Rivera, 18, Hays, who was driving a red 2001 Ford Explorer.

The "jaws of life" had to be used to get Beckner out of her vehicle, Harbin said.

Jimenez-Riveria and his passenger, Carlos Sanchez, 15, were not taken in for medical evaluation.
