Many of us take for granted good health, but after a person has been diagnosed with a chronic disease, it is something they live with every day. Effective management becomes the key to maintaining their health. A free class offered in Hays can help those with chronic health conditions. If you have diabetes, asthma, pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, arthritis, colitis, celiac disease or any number of life-altering conditions, this class is designed for you.

The Kansas Optimizing Health Program consists of six sessions, during which participants will support each other with problem solving and goal setting. Topics include communicating effectively with family and health care providers, exercise, nutrition, as well as managing fatigue, depression, stress and pain. Each participant receives a workbook and the tools to take more control over their condition.

The free class will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays from May 7 through June 11 at the Center for Health Improvement, 2500 Canterbury.

Registration is required to ensure adequate space and supplies are available. Deadline for registration is May 3.
