FHSU to honor veterans at Saturday's game

The final game of the season for the Fort Hays State University football team also will be Military Appreciation Day.
With proper identification, all active members of the military -- as well as veterans -- will be admitted free to Saturday's game against University of Nebraska-Kearney. Kickoff is 2 p.m. at Lewis Field Stadium. They will be honored with a public address announcement during the game.
FHSU does this every year for the last game of the season, which falls near Veterans Day, said assistant athletic director Tim Callahan.
"It's getting to be a little bigger every year," he said. "We're also bringing in Boy Scouts to present the colors for the national anthem and be on the field."
Callahan said it's important to recognize those who have served and those currently in the military.
"It's common sense to promote those guys," he said. "Everything that they do for us, that's the least we can do, take a game, give them a free ticket, recognize them during the game.
"It's important for us, important for our student-athletes, to remember our military, remember our vets. This is very important for us to do."
