City commissioners hear report on 13th street improvements
By RANDY GONZALES
Hays city commissioners were updated on proposed improvements to 13th Street between Main and Milner at Thursday's work session at city hall.
"This would be the next large reconstruction project, falling on the heels of the 41st Street reconstruction, which is scheduled for 2014," said Assistant Director of Public Works John Braun. "Staff is asking to solicit proposals for engineering services related to the development of concept plans and cost estimates for this project."
Mayor Kent Steward asked if there was a need for work to be done on 13th Street west of Main.
"We've done quite a bit of brick repair to that section of 13th Street west of Main," Braun said, adding he didn't think it was necessary for improvements at this time.
Commissioners will consider going forward with the $1.5 million project at next week's commission meeting.

Commissioners will take up the issue at next week's meeting.
* Commissioners were briefed on a proposed ordinance concerning motor vehicles and mobile equipment at Hays Regional Airport, as well as proposed rules and regulations.
* Commissioners had an annexation request brought before them for property located at 43rd and General Hays Road.
* Commissioners went into executive session for 25 minutes to discuss possible property acquisition. No action was taken.
