WILSON LAKE -- An angler fishing Sunday near the Wilson Lake dam discovered the body of a drowning victim, the second drowning at the lake in a week.
According to a statement from Russell County Undersheriff Max Barrett, authorities were notified Sunday about a body floating in the water near the lake dam.
The body was recovered and turned over to Russell County medical authorities. The body later was transferred to Hays for an autopsy.
The victim was identified as Richard G. Roach,Ellsworth. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the drowning, according to a release by the Russell County Sheriff's department.
Sunday's drowning comes just a week after the sheriff's office and other emergency departments pulled the body of a 38-year-old Hoisington man from Wilson Lake.
Identified as George Willenberg, he apparently drowned while trying to swim across a cove in the Rock Town area after the boat he was on had mechanical problems.
The sheriff's office said alcohol might have been a contributing factor in that drowning.
There's been a string of drownings in the state this year, including at least six so far this month.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism last week reported at least 12 drownings across Kansas.
