Schools in Ellis USD 388 and Hays USD 489 will begin a slew of elementary, middle school and high school graduations and promotions during the next few weeks in Ellis County.
The 38 members of Ellis High School's class of 2013 will be honored in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday in the EHS gymnasium.
The speaker will be Bob Kohman, the school's vocational agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor the past seven years who has resigned his position to take a job with Kansas Farm Management that will be based out of his hometown of Abilene.
There will be a special honors presentation recognizing co-valedictorians Beth Augustine and Bailey Hensley.
Hays High School's graduation is set for 3 p.m. Sunday in Fort Hays State University's Gross Memorial Coliseum. Baccalaureate services prior to graduation will begin at 1:30 p.m. at 12th Street Auditorium, 323 W. 12th.
The class of 191 seniors chose as its speaker Jill Blurton, a health and physical education teacher at Hays High for nearly 30 years who is retiring at the end of the school year.
Honored at the ceremony will be 13 graduates who have maintained a perfect 4.0 throughout their high school careers.
Anyone unable to attend Sunday's Hays High graduation ceremonies in person still can watch it live.
