Reconstruction of Vine Street from 13th to 22nd streets is moving along on schedule, with concrete poured one day earlier than anticipated.

During a Tuesday morning press briefing, city of Hays Public Works Director I.D. Creech reminded motorists to be aware of changes in traffic patterns in the construction zone.

"Pay attention as you go down through there," he said. "I would remind everybody that we're asking for no left turns in the construction area.

"That causes a problem with back-ups and messes quite a bit with traffic flow through there."

The first phase of construction, which has closed the two southbound lanes on the west side of the road and the center turn lane, is anticipated to be complete by the end of May.

Phase two will affect the northbound lanes on the east side of the road. The third phase will involve the 14-foot center lane.

The entire project is estimated to be completed by the end of July, depending on weather conditions.
