PBR event heads back to Phillipsburg

PHILLIPSBURG -- The city's annual Riverless Festival will have a Professional Bull Riders event return this year.
Phillipsburg, which already has what is billed as Kansas' Biggest Rodeo, added a PBR event in conjunction with the Riverless Festival in 2012.
"The rodeo committee already has a highly successful rodeo," said Ruth Nicolaus, an event organizer. "I think they were just looking to put on something that the community would enjoy. Rodeo is so well-received in Phillipsburg, anyway. Bull riding also is well-received."
The PBR event is scheduled for 8 p.m. June 7 as part of the festival.
"It's nice that bull riding gives something in the evening to do," Nicolaus said of the festival, which originated in 1985. "Riverless is all day long, with things to do. Stay in town, get something to eat, watch bull riding at night.
"I'm tickled we can offer it to our fans. I met a lady last year, a family from Iowa, drove four hours for this because they follow PBR."
Tickets for the PBR event go on sale May 12. They will be $18 for adult general admission, $20 for adult reserved seating, $22 for box seats and $25 for chute seats. Tickets for children age 12 and younger are $10 for reserved seating. For general admission, children are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
