TMP scholars continue their winning ways

By The Hays Daily News

The Thomas More Prep-Marian High School scholars bowl team continued its winning tradition of recent years by finishing in the top two at its first two tournaments of the 2013-14 season.

After placing second at the Natoma tournament last month, TMP went 7-0 Monday at Colby's 12-team tourney, including a 70-55 victory over Goodland in the championship match.

The Monarchs went 5-0 in pool play en route to making the final four. There, they beat Quinter in the semifinals to reach the title match.

They are 16-2 on the season after a 9-2 effort at Natoma, where they went 5-1 in pool play and 4-1 in the finals to finish second to Downs-Lakeside.

Monday's team consisted of seniors Jacob Brull, Ryan Hammerschmidt, Justin Raynesford, Rachel Becker and Kayla Hockett, junior Lucas Diehl and sophomore Justyce Briney.

Monday completed first-semester action for the Monarchs, whose next action will be Jan. 11 at Beloit.
