The deadline for payment of second half 2013 property taxes is a couple days later than normal this year, said Ellis County Treasurer Ann Pfeifer.

The deadline normally is May 10, but since that day is on a Saturday this year, the deadline to pay is end of business on May 12. Taxpayers can pay either online, through the mail or in the Treasurer's office at the Ellis County Courthouse.

Property that is taxed includes vehicles; heavy trucks and trailers; oil property, royalties and interest; and real estate.

If payment is not received by the deadline, penalties and interest would begin to be assessed.

"It's kind of like anything, you spend a lot of your time working on collecting the people who don't pay on time, but most of them do," Pfeifer said.
