Wiesner announces candidacy for U.S. Senate

TOPEKA -- Patrick Wiesner, 58, announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate on Friday in Topeka as he filed for the Democratic nomination.
His goals are paying off the national debt, passing a simplified tax code and stopping lobbyists from writing the laws.
He has lived in Kansas all his life. He grew up in Ellis and now lives in Lawrence. Wiesner is a graduate of Colby Community College and Fort Hays State University. He has a law degree from KU. He owns the Overland Park law firm Wiesner & Frackowiak, and he is retiring from the U.S. Army Reserves after 21 years of military service.
The Democratic primary is Aug. 5.
