Wayne F. Miller
Wayne F. Miller, 84, Hays, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at home.
He was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Hays to Alois (AR) and Seraphine (Ruder) Miller.
He married Wanda Meier on Jan. 31, 1951. He was a longtime resident of Hays. He worked as a field mechanic for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 37 years prior to retiring in 1984. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Koren War.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a founding member of the Hays ARC, and instrumental in the development of DSNWK and ECDC. He was a member of Hays American Legion and was a former scout master for Boy Scouts of America. He was a former girls' softball coach.
He enjoyed woodworking and crafts after his retirement, gardening, fishing, gambling and bingo, traveling, sports and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years; three sons, Daniel, Brian and Charles Miller; four daughters, Stacie Ploutz and husband, Jack, Christine Yocum and husband, Westley, Stephanie Wasko and husband, Myron, and Laurie Rollins and husband, Lamont; two sisters, Patricia Schmidtberger and husband, Robert, and Sylvia Edwards and husband, Bert; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Linus, Harlan and Donald Miller; two sisters, Alice McCord and Inez Mai; a daughter, Mary; and a grandson, Jeremy Wasko.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by Hays American Legion and American Legion Riders.
Friends can call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.
A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
