HUTCHINSON -- The Kansas Cosmosphere & Space Center Foundation Board installed new officers at the first quarterly meeting of 2014, including Bruce Buchanan, Harris Enterprises, as chairman. The Smithsonian-affiliated Cosmosphere houses the largest collection of U.S. and Russian space artifacts in the world. The Cosmosphere's mission is to honor the past and inspire the future of space exploration.

Sunflower Bank has hired Darci Cain as a wealth management adviser. Cain is a certified trust and financial advisor and has life, health and accident insurance licenses. Cain will be serving prospective and current clients in the Hays, Victoria, Colby, Russell and Osborne areas. Cain earned a double bachelor's degree in business administration and economics with a management emphasis from Tabor College in Hillsboro. Cain possesses 18 years of experience in the financial and trust industry, including positions of trust officer, investment broker and commercial lender. Cain, her husband, Brent, and son, Tegan, will relocate and reside in Hays. Cain's current and past community involvement includes past treasurer of Junior League of the Flint Hills, Pilot Club of Manhattan serving on the autism awareness committee, church Membership Care committee, volunteer pianist for retirement facilities and PTO member.

Josh Beiker and B.J. Schmitt have joined The Hays Daily News as drivers to Salina and back. Beiker worked for Asurion and has lived in Palco.

TOPEKA -- State Sen. Elaine Bowers, R-Concordia, announced the staff that will be helping her represent the 36th District. Hays High School graduate Katie Krug will serve as her intern. Krug, from Salina, is a 2012 graduate of Hays High. She attends Washburn University as a junior studying international business and economics, with minors in comparative political science and leadership studies. While at Washburn, she acts as vicce chairwoman of the Washburn University College Republicans, treasurer of the Pre-Law Association, and is on the Student Leadership Council of the Washburn Leadership Institute. She also works for the Washburn University Foundation. Krug was an intern for Rep. Troy Waymaster in the 2013 session, but this is her first time on the Senate side.
