HAYS -- The Fort Hays State University Alumni Association is proud to announce Ashley Adorante, a 2001 Overland Park graduate, as the recipient of the 2013-14 Chapter Volunteer of the Year award. Adorante was invited to receive her award and be recognized by the Alumni Association Board of Directors at its annual meeting in early June.

Adorante served as the Kansas City Area Tiger Alumni and Friends chapter vice president, attended and hosted numerous Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference events, participated in the 2013 FHSU Alumni Leadership Conference in Hays, played a key leadership role in the inaugural FHSU Kansas City Golf Classic geared to raising scholarship funds for students, monitored and kept the chapter's Facebook page up to date, and organized the Salvation Army bell ringing service.

She brings a wealth of experience in volunteer management, event planning and social media to the success of the Tiger chapter by attending, leading and participating in events.

The Chapter of the Year award, announced at the same time, went to the Kansas City Area Tiger Alumni and Friends chapter. The chapter, established in 2011, consists of Allen, Anderson, Atchinson, Bourbon, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and Buchannan, Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte counties in Missouri. Chapter President Darcy Tenbrink a 1988 graduate from Overland Park, accepted the honor on behalf of the chapter.

Throughout 2013 and 2014, the chapter hosted the Kansas City Student Recognition Program, where the chapter awarded its first-ever scholarship, hosted MIAA basketball tournament pre-game parties, KCAC receptions, Tiger Meet and Greet Happy Hours and the Kansas City Golf Classic. The chapter award includes a $500 cash stipend to use for further chapter development.

Established in 1916, the Fort Hays State University Alumni Association serves the population of FHSU graduates by identifying needs and providing solutions. More than 56,000 graduates live throughout the United States and approximately 74 in foreign countries. Eight chapters are active across the state of Kansas.
