The HRC office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays, when the office is open until 6 p.m. The HRC phone number is (785) 623-2650.

City light sleigh rides

Join the family on a horse-drawn hay rack ride as we see the streets of Hays light up. Enjoy hot chocolate, hot cider and cookies. Bring your blankets and enjoy the ride. Kids younger than 5 will enjoy making a craft for the holidays. Tickets available until Dec. 13. Entry fee: free. Dates: Dec. 14 and 15. Time. Pick ride time when getting tickets at Hays Recreation Center. Location: Dec. 14 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 29th and Indian Trail; Dec. 15 at First Presbyterian Church, 2900 Hall.

Black Friday bootcamp

Eat too much on Thanksgiving? Feeling the need to work off some of those calories? Join HRC Fitness for our Black Friday bootcamp. The 60-minute boot camp will mix traditional calisthenics and body weight exercises with interval and strength training. It will be an intense workout. Deadline: Drop in. Entry fee: $2. Date: Friday. Time: Noon to 1 p.m. Location: Recreation center.

Little piggy sensory

When was the last time you and your child got completely immersed in a full sensory experience? In this class, you and your child will dig into a fun, sensory activity every week. Parents, you won't leave empty-handed at the end of each class. Come dressed to get messy. Entry fee: $5. Dates: Thursdays, Dec. 5 to 19. Time: 9:30 to 10 a.m. Ages: 9 to 18 months, with an adult. Location: Recreation center. Limitation: Minimum five, maximum 12.

Taste of music sparks

Want to give a Music Sparks class a try without an extended time commitment? Here you go: two weeks of singing, moving, playing instruments and more for your child and an adult (parent, grandparent, nanny). Deadline: Session 1: Wednesday; Session 2: Feb. 19. Entry fee: $12. Dates: Session 1: Dec. 4 & 11; Session 2: March 5 & 12. Time: 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Age: 8 months to 5, with adult. Location: Recreation center. Limitation: Minimum five, maximum 12. Instructor: JoAnn Jordan, board certified music therapist.

Tiny Tas (0-2 years)

Little Lotus storytime

This class will focus on balance, stretching and developing body awareness. The children will learn how to move their bodies through yoga poses using games, stories and a craft. Dress in comfortable clothing. Entry fee: $8. Date: Tuesdays, Dec. 3 to 17. Times: 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Ages: 2 to 5. Location: Recreation center. Limitations: Minimum five, maximum 12.

Messy midgets

Let your child explore and be creative with unusual art activities. Classes will be colorful with a lot of adventure. Entry fee: $8. Date: Wednesdays, Dec. 4 to 18. Times: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Ages: 2, with an adult. Location: Recreation center. Limitations: Minimum five, maximum 12.

Sensory play

Come have fun with your child while they explore different textures. Activities will include finding pennies in play dough, looking for small objects in rice, messing in cooked and uncooked macaroni, playing with shaving cream, etc. These are only a few of the fun things we will do. Entry fee: $8. Date: Tuesdays, Dec. 3 to 17. Times: 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Ages: 2 to 4, with an adult. Location: Recreation center. Limitations: Minimum five, maximum 12.

Pottery and books

Pottery and reading, what a great combination. This program will start with a book, followed by painting a piece of pottery that relates to the story. Kids will have a great time using their imaginations to create a storybook character or related idea. Entry fee: $13 per session. Date: Tuesdays, Dec. 3, Jan. 7, Feb. 4 and April 8. Time: 1 to 2 p.m. Ages: 3 and older, with an adult. Location: Pottery Works, 126 W. Ninth. Limitations: Minimum five, maximum 12. Instructor: Pam Fellers.

granola bars

Tired of constantly buying and feeding your family processed granola bars? We will show you some healthy alternatives with nutritious ingredients so you know you are giving your family healthy options. Samples will be available, and you'll take home a batch of your own. Entry fee: $15. Date: Dec. 3. Times: 6 to 7 p.m. Ages: 18 and older. Location: Recreation center. Limitations: Minimum 5, maximum 12.

Indoor community

Clothing sale. Buy or sell good usable maternity clothes, children clothing, toys or kids furniture for ages birth and older. Doors open at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, and sale ends at 1 p.m. Each space includes two 6-foot tables. On Saturday, everything must be cleaned up by 2 p.m. Entry fee for sellers: $10. Date: Set up for sellers, Friday; sell on Saturday. Time: Set up for sellers, 5 to 7 p.m. Open to public, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ages: All ages. Location: Recreation center. Christmas Carol

Everybody knows the brutish character of Ebenezer Scrooge, but don't miss this new Broadway version of the classic story of holiday redemption. Sit back and enjoy the musical.
