OBERLIN, Kan. -- Southwest Kansas has been known for wild weather throughout the years. And that wild weather forced the first official event of the 2013 United Rebel Sprint Series season to be postponed last weekend at Liberal County Fairgrounds.
But Saturday, the temperatures are expected to be pleasant and nearly 80 degrees in southwest Kansas, and that means the Rebels of the URSS should have a great atmosphere to finally kick off the season.
The Rebels will begin the 2013 season at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Liberal. Pits open at 4:30, and grandstands open at 5:30 p.m. Support classes will be modifieds, stocks, sport mods and hobby stocks. Tickets for adults at $12, and children age 6 to 11 are $5. Those 5 and younger are free. Pit passes are $30 for adults and $10 for those 11 and younger.
It will be the first time since 2010 the Rebels have competed on the 3/8-mile D-shaped dirt track in Liberal.
Jetmore's Ray Seemann won the last URSS race in Liberal on Aug. 3, 2010. The Rebels have competed nine times on the track.
The winner of Saturday's race will get an early jump on the rest of the field in the URSS points standings.
