Churches journey back to Bethlehem
Special to the HDN
JETMORE -- Jetmore and Hanston United Methodist Churches will host the 14th annual Journey to Bethlehem event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 14 and 15.
Additional tours are available for those with special needs from 5 to 5:30 p.m. each evening. The event will be at the church in Jetmore.
The journey takes visitors through first-century Bethlehem to experience the birth of Christ. Characters include a wise man, census taker, tax collector, inn keeper, elders, shepherds and angels.
Another scene depicts a market place full of sights and sounds, featuring live animals. The journey will culminate with a nativity encounter with Mary, Joseph and the child.
A storyteller will set the stage for the journey by providing historical information about the time and place in which Jesus was born. Refreshments also will be available.
Hodgeman County businesses will host a free-will donation dinner before the event from 4 to 8 p.m. at Jetmore's King Center on Main Street. Proceeds will benefit a local scholarship fund.
More than 6,000 visitors have attended the journey re-enactment since it began in 2000.
