Equity Bank announced the hiring of Ronan Sramek as a mortgage loan officer in the bank's western Kansas market. Sramek is a seasoned mortgage lender in the Hays and Ellis communities. He joined Equity Bank on April 21 and is based in Equity Bank's Hays office at 2428 Vine. Sramek has more than 10 years of experience as a mortgage loan officer and 15-plus years of experience in banking, previously working for Commerce Bank and Sunflower Bank in Hays. Sramek will oversee mortgage lending for Equity Bank in Hays and Ellis, and will be involved in overall branch strategy and business development. Equity Bank entered the Hays and Ellis markets in 2008. A native of western Kansas, Sramek is from McDonald and a graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian, as well as Fort Hays State University. He and his wife remain involved in the Hays community. Equity Bank will host an open house to welcome Sramek at a date to be determined.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The National Association for Campus Activities recently elected Edie McCracken to its board of directors. McCracken is the director of Memorial Union at Fort Hays State University and has worked in campus activities for approximately to 15 years. As director of Memorial Union, she oversees and manages the union faculty, campus engagement opportunities and Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center. Prior to her role at the university, McCracken was assistant director of the union. Active in NACA, she has served as institute series coordinator, institute facilitator, central region conference logistics coordinator and other leadership roles within her region. She has presented several educational sessions during regional conferences and national conventions. McCracken also has been published in Campus Activities Programming, NACA's award-winning publication, and has been honored numerous times for her accomplishments in student activities. She also actively is involved with other professional organizations, including the Association of College Unions International, the Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the National Association for College Auxiliary Services. McCracken has a bachelor's of science degree from East Central University and a master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas.

TOPEKA -- Three Hays attorneys were among 134 sworn in recently by Kansas Chief Justice Lawton Nuss and U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson. The three are Kyle Andrew Kitson, Tanner L. Weigel and Christopher William David Lyon. They were among successful applicants to the February Kansas Bar examination. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted at the Topeka Performing Arts Center.

TOPEKA-- Nearly 170 optometric assistants attended the 2014 Kansas Optometric Association's Convention and Seminar in Topeka. Assistants attending were able to receive up to 10 hours of continuing education. Among those attending were Angie Werth and Kylee Herrman, both of Hays. The seminar focused on improving patient care and service. Sessions included courses on communicating with patients, front-office procedures, trouble-shooting prescription problems, refractive status of the eye, anatomy and physiology, ocular disorders, and lens coatings. The seminar also featured exhibits with the latest developments in eyewear, optometric equipment and practice management.
