West dominates DI All-Star game....West falls in DII

BELOIT -- The West dominated the competition Saturday in the Eight-Man Division I All-Star game at Trojan Field.
Ness City's Garrett Flax rushed for three touchdowns in the first half, and the West defense dominated in a 54-8 win, the West's sixth straight in the series.
Ness City head coach Chris Bamberger, who guided his Eagles to an undefeated Eight-Man Division I state title in the fall, coached the West.
In the Division II game, the East had a dominant second half and earned a 40-14 victory.
Victoria head coach Doug Oberle coached the West.
In the Division I game, the West racked up 427 total yards of offense, while containing the East to 148. Flax rushed for 76 yards on 10 carries and the three scores. He also caught a pass for 22 yards.
Quarterback Dayton Walter, of Lincoln, passed for 181 yards and a pair of scores. Two scores went to Solomon's Joshua Burdine, who had five catches for 145 yards.
All but two of the West's touchdowns came before halftime, then Ness City's Dalton Gantz broke free for a two-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Ness City's Blake McVicker led the West defense. He collected eight tackles and a half sack, while Hoxie's Brandon Salmans had two sacks and four total tackles.
In the Division II game, Thunder Ridge's Trevor Lowe was an offensive leader for the West. Lowe had 21 carries for 77 yards and scored one of the West's two TDs.
Sharon Springs-Wallace County's Gavin Mote scored the other TD. The QB threw for 105 yards as well on 9 of 13 passing.
Victoria's Dalton Dreiling recorded eight tackles for the West defense, along with Wallace County's Eli Kuhlmann and Dighton's Ryan Kuhlman.
The East posted 338 total yards of offense to 255 for the West.
Kyle Hammond, of Colony-Crest, led the East offense with 15 rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
