HHS soccer wins in OT

LIBERAL — Junior Brooke Russell’s free-kick goal with 22 seconds to play in the second overtime was the difference in a 4-3 win for the Hays High School girls’ soccer team at Liberal on Thursday.
Liberal led 2-0 after a goal in the third minute of the second half before the Indians got on the board a minute later with a goal from freshman Tressa Becker. Hays High freshman Maddie Keller tied the game in the 48th minute, but in the 71st minute Liberal retook the lead via a corner-kick goal.
Freshman Talyn Kleweno tied the game at 3 when she scored with two minutes to play in regulation, assist by Becker.
The teams played through a scoreless first overtime before Russell’s game winner in the final seconds of double overtime.
Hays High improved to 4-2, 2-0 in WAC play. Thursday’s win was the second come from behind overtime win in as many games. The Indians will play at Junction City on Tuesday, their sixth straight non-home game.
