Monarch baseball season ends in Holcomb

HOLCOMB -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball season came to an abrupt end on Tuesday with a 1-0 loss to Holcomb High School in their Class 3A regional semifinal game.
Pitcher Cameron Brin carried TMP, the region's top seed, most of the night. The teams played five innings of scoreless baseball before host Holcomb scored the game's lone run in the top of the sixth inning off an RBI double.
TMP -- the designated home team -- stranded two runners in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Monarchs opened the bottom of the seventh with a single by Braiden Werth, who advanced to second base on a sacrifice hit by Ricky Hockett.
However, the next two batters hit into outs to end the game.
Brin pitched all seven innings for TMP, giving up six hits, no walks and struck out five batters. TMP matched Holcomb hit for hit but did commit two fielding errors, none for Holcomb.
The win sent Holcomb (11-10) into Tuesday's regional championship game where it lost to second-seed Lyons/Chase, 6-1. TMP's season ends with a record of 15-6.
