HILLSBORO — The Thomas More Prep-Marian boys’ and girls’ basketball teams each fell in their first game of the Trojan Classic on Monday, hosted by Hillsboro High School.
The TMP boys lost 60-43 to Holcomb (8-2), which is ranked No. 5 in Class 3A. TMP trailed 9-0 before a basket at the 3:56 mark of the first quarter got the Monarchs on the board. Holcomb led 20-9 with 5:52 to play in the half when TMP started to get things going. The Monarchs outscored Holcomb the rest of the half and trailed 29-24 at the break.
Holcomb pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring TMP 17-5. The Longhorns led by as many as 19 points midway through the fourth.

TMP (4-6) will next play Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against the loser of Hillsboro and Goodland, which play Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The TMP girls fell 55-21 to Wamego, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A Division I. TMP (3-7) was without four key players who were in Washington D.C. with the high school as part of the March for Life.
