KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Fort Hays State University football team was selected to finish eighth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association preseason coaches poll, released this morning at MIAA football media day.

FHSU was picked eighth in the media poll, also released today.

Coming off a 6-5 overall (4-5 MIAA) campaign last season, the Tigers enter their fourth season under head coach Chris Brown. Brown is 15-18 in three seasons.

Defending NCAA Division II national champion Northwest Missouri received 48 first place votes between the two polls as they topped both the coaches and media poll for 2014. The Bearcats were perfect in MIAA play last season on their way to their fourth national crown in football.

Both the coaches and the media agreed Pittsburg State as the No. 2 team in the poll, giving them one first place vote in each. Things differed as the polls moved to the No. 3 spot. The coaches picked Central Missouri, and the media gave Emporia State the nod and a first-place vote.

Just six points behind UCM, ESU was picked fourth in the coaches poll, while Missouri Western came in fourth among the media voters.

MWSU was just six points behind ESU as they were picked fifth by the coaches and Washburn entered the media poll as the number five selection. WU was just three points behind the number five spot as they came in sixth in the coaches poll while UCM was selected sixth in the media poll. Things returned to unison in the number seven spot as Missouri Southern was picked seventh in both polls.

Fort Hays was picked eighth by both the coaches and media while Lindenwood was selected in the ninth spot in both polls. Central Oklahoma was picked 10th by the coaches while earning the 11th place spot in the media poll. Nebraska-Kearney flip flopped with them being chosen tenth by the media and 11th in the coaches votes. Northeastern State was picked 12th in both polls.

Ten of the 12 MIAA football schools are scheduled to kick off the season on Thursday, Sept. 4 with Nebraska-Kearney traveling to Northwest Missouri in the MIAA Television Network game of the week.
