8 injured in Kansas Turnpike crash

TOWANDA, Kan. (AP) -- The Kansas Highway Patrol says eight people are recovering from injuries suffered when the passenger van they were in crashed on the Kansas Turnpike.

The patrol says two of the people hurt in the accident Sunday near the Towanda Service area are in critical condition.

Lt. Dennis Tate tells KSNW-TV (http://bit.ly/10WYX2k ) that the van went out of control and overturned after one of the tires lost its tread and the driver slammed on the brakes.

The eight people were taken to Wichita hospitals. Their names were not released.
