Emporia city manager resigns to take Missouri job

EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) -- Emporia city manager Matt Zimmerman has resigned to become city manager of a St. Louis suburb.

Zimmerman announced his intention to resign Wednesday night. He says he will become city manager in Hazelwood, Mo.

The Emporia Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/18BVI8y ) Zimmerman's last day in Emporia will be Oct. 24.

Mayor Rob Gilligan thanked Zimmerman and the council accepted his resignation without objection.

Zimmerman became Emporia city manager six years ago. An interim city manager will be named within the next month.
