A man was shot and critically injured near Wichita State University early Thursday morning, authorities said.

The shooting was reported in the 1600 block of North Hillside shortly after 2:30 a.m. Thursday, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. That's just southwest of the WSU campus.

The victim was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment. No information about the nature of his injuries or a description of the suspect has been released, though more details are anticipated to be released at a 10 a.m. briefing for the media at City Hall.
