October came today (Or, don't I wish….)

Dear Readers, With great pleasure and the permission of the author (a dear friend of mine,) here is a favorite poem for a favorite month: OCTOBER CAME TODAY By D.S. Delaney OCTOBER CAME TODAY ALL BLUSTERY AND CRISP THE FROST IS ON THE PUMPKIN AND IN THE AIR THERE IS A WISP OF SWEET WOOD SMOKE OF BURNING LEAVES OF CINNAMON AND CIDER THE AMBER DUSK BREAKS THROUGH THE TREES AND I AM JUST DELIGHTED THAT OCTOBER CAME TODAY THE SCYTHE HAS CUT THE RYE THE BOYS ARE IN THE HUDDLE AND THE GIRLS LET POM POMS FLY ALL HALLOW’S EVE LOOMS SPOOKILY FOR EVERY MOTHER’S CHILD THROW UP THE SASH LET AUTUMN IN IF JUST FOR A SHORT WHILE When I was granted permission to share this poem with you, the author asked that I also include a bit of a post-script: OCTOBER USED TO BE THE WAY I WROTE IT IN THIS VERSE BUT IT HIT 98 TODAY AND TOMORROW WILL BE WORSE IF YOU THINK GLOBAL WARMING ISN’T RIGHT NOW HERE TO LAST JUST CHECK YOUR RECENT A / C BILL AND KINDLY KISS MY — …DUPA D.S.

Praising God Through Music

From the time David (and others) composed the Psalms, and much earlier than even that, music has been an integral piece of church and worship, praising God, and church liturgy. The definition of the word music from Oxford Languages is, “vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony and expression of emotion.” What a wonderful way to define music within the context of church celebrations and liturgy! God deserves nothing less, don’t you think? Liturgical music within the Catholic church revolves around the readings of the day from the Bible or, if we are celebrating a specific feast such as Christmas, we choose music to help celebrate God’s presence within those contexts.
